Some lies are so absurb that I couldn't help but to shake my head in bewilderment at it all.
"What planet DO you live on?"
Some lies were so manipulative that I ended up doubting MY sanity.
Tonight's meeting is not an Addict Bashing session. Not in the least.
It's about US!!! Addiction is a family disease--and we catch a mutation of the disease.
What happens to us and OUR sense of right and wrong in this mess called addiction?
A passage from our Naranon blue booklet, page 4 THE FAMILY says--
...we may try to cover for him, blame him, or excuse his unacceptable behavior.
We worry, we take on the addict's responsibilities, we make excuses and we try to cover up for him---
this is our anxiety--and as a result we become enablers...
Have you ever been so caught up in the daily chaos where YOU lied to cover up for your ALO?
Have you made excuses for your ALO?
Have you "fibbed" to family members about your ALO or to his/her employer?
I replied to another post with the reminder that actions speak louder than words.
"People my doubt what you say, but they will believe what you do"
These quotes apply to ME too....and YOU?
Do I make threats that I cannot--or will not--carry through on?
Am I sending mixed messages to my ALO?
May I worry more about what comes out of MY mouth
(things I can change)
and less about what comes out of the mouths of others
(things I can't change)
Tonight I'd like to talk about white lies, fibs, bold face lies, and the like.
While our ALOs may be lying machines, we can be lying to ourselves about the heart of the matter (denial) etc.
Closing on a positive note:
May my words be sweet and tender
for tomorrow I may have to eat them
