Life unmanageable?

With the understanding that addiction is a disease and the realization that we are powerless over it as well as over people's lives, we are ready to do something useful and constructive with our own.

Then, and only then can we be of any help to others.

Thank you for so clearly articulating what we are in control of... ourselves and our own recovery. I fully experienced all you describe in this post and never for one moment thought I had a problem / addiction too. I have learned so much in the last 12 months thanks to this forum and my f2f Al-Anon group and working the steps with my sponsor. Do I have relapses, sure, and often but most of the time they're not that big and I can get back on the path to recovery. Thank you again. I love this forum and all of its members, organizers, and volunteers to who make it possible.

By realizing this program is for me
and that I can do it in my own way
and in my own time, is what works for me.

Knowing there is a better way for me to live
and that suffering is optional gives me
the opportunity to make positive changes.

I had to want it. I have to work hard at it.
I have to realize the benefits of the program
outway the madness and misery of addiction.

I may not get it right everyday, but everyday I
have the opportunity to make it better, to have
choices. One day at a time and Just for Today.

Are you willing to do for yourself, what you expect of the addict?

I've been thinking about this since I read your post yesterday. Yes I am willing to do for myself, what I expect of my AS. I am attending 3-4 f2f meetings a week, seeing a drug counselor and also my regular counselor weekly and reading, reading, reading until my eyes cannot focus. It puts things clearly in perspective, thank you for your inspiring post!

With love and gratitude,
Lori
