Thanks, Tako.

I will respectfully agree to disagree, as to the application, in this instance.

Nar-Anon's Twelve Traditions...

2.For our group purpose there is but one ultimate authority -- a loving God as He may express Himself in our group conscience. Our leaders are but trusted servants -- they do not govern.

4.Each group should be autonomous except in matters affecting other Nar-Anon Family Groups, or NA as a whole.

I guess the question is what is this autonomous group's conscience?

i missed a little feedback after sharing at the meeting. the tyfs does seem a bit cold. but, if thats the rule then i will accept it. accept the things you can not change...right? and, after reading the explanations for the rules it made more sense. so there are lots of ways to get support from the forum. i can learn to live without the feedback. but i sure do miss those hugs! i appreciate all the people that work hard to keep this thing going. its all good!

The Forum is not an autonomous group.

The Forum is an outreach project sponsored by Area 10.

Thank you, Jeannie. This is very, very important to know and remember. There have been problems in the past with a basic misunderstanding of this. There are no group consciences here. Those who treat the Forum as an autonomous group must understand that this is not meant to be one. It is understandable that those who cannot get to f/f meetings will treat this Forum as their home group, but it is not a true family group and is not meant to be one. Therefore, expectations (as always) can cause frustration and resentment. There are monitors (all volunteers) here who help keep this Forum going and their decisions are based on what is good for the overall membership and running of the Forum. Their decisions are not subject to voting or personal preferences. If that seems to be governing, it is only because an understanding of this Forum and its purpose is lacking. If, at times, it ends up actually being governing, it breaks no traditions to do so since this is not a family group. It is only a tool of Nar-Anon that needs maintenance.
Thank you for listening.

I only just read this topic today. It looks like the last post here was a week ago -- Maybe since then there have been some compromise?? IDK, but I haven't been to an online meeting in a little while, (things get in the way...) I just came from one today BEFORE I read this topic, and I didn't even notice the changes!

I agree almost entirely with OBG, but honestly the guidelines set out before the meeting today seemed to be the same as they were a month ago. We were encouraged to reply with TYFS AND a FEW encouraging words. Our moderator was Sharon, and she too added a few words of encouragement... Official or unofficial compromise, it doesn't really matter - I like always, felt welcome and at home here. I can not comment on the 'chat' issue, since I haven't used it. I do however, believe that if you come here for the FIRST TIME in crisis.. most people probably feel comfortable talking to someone in a chat room rather than by phone. It's definitely better to have an immediate response when you are in crisis - I love the forum but, most-times you have to wait for a response.

I hope this issue is not as big as it sounds... Personally, I have been helped tremendously by many people here including, OBG, Sharon, Kelly, Carn, Tako, Dave, and numerous others. I look forward to seeing you all in the forum. Thank you from the bottom of my heart!

If anyone is so moved, an autonomous online group could be created on an independent site, as other fellowships have done. With all the rights and responsibilities of a truly autonomous group, not answering to a sponsoring entity. It would need to be self-supporting.

i didn't know we weren't suppose to be in the chat rooms unless we are having a meeting. sorry about that. i like to talk. i personally think we should all choose an instant messenger that everyone wants to use and everyone sign up. that way we can talk when and about what we want to.

edit: i went back and read the rules. i still would like to talk with some of you on IM.
