ATTENTION: MODERATORS and HEAD MODERATOR NEEDED

I saw this post yesterday and I must admit it caught me off guard. It took me till today to come up with the words for it...

Yes my term is up next month but that's not the case with all of the moderators. I am happy that in this post they at least used the job description and job requirements that the past and present moderating team worked so diligently on.

I appreciate the post and its intention but I would have appreciated knowing beforehand that Area 10 and/or the Forum Committee was moving in this direction, a direction that is totally different from the way its been done in the past. I'm not saying that way was perfect, far from it, but it was the only way we had. If it was going to be changed I feel the the current moderating team should have been told. I don't mind this way at all, in fact it has been suggested in the past by former moderators.

Part of the problem with this forum in the past has been a disconnect between the forum, Area 10 and the moderating team. A lack of communication if you will. This serves as a perfect example of that, someone decides we're going to change the way moderators are put in place and we'll let the current moderators find out the same as everyone. In the past major decisions such as this would have been communicated, I would then let the moderating team know before the post actually hit the forum. In this way no one felt blindsided.

Well what is done is done, it can't be changed. I only suggest that Area 10 and the Forum Committee consider those who actually serve before making major decisions.

I wish to publically apologize to my moderating team. I appreciate your service more than you'll ever know and I would never take what you do for granted. If I had know beforehand I would have let you know but I couldn't communicate that which was not communicated to me.

Thanks for the post. I'm was a little surprised by the post but even more so that there was no mention
that the head moderator had to be from Area 10. This shall be interesting I am sure.

For those considering this level of service, I can tell you that it has been incredibly rewarding for me. It
has also been frustrating, hurtful and maddening at times.... but only a few times. It's amazing to be
part of a team that works really well together. If you love this forum, talk with your sponsor and pray
about it..... I encourage you to join this team!!!!

Area 10 was informed by Lawanda that she would not continue as head Moderator after February of 2010.

Area 10 formed a "Forum Committee" to formulate Moderator Job Responsibilities and Requirements. Lawanda was asked for and gave input to the committee.

The Area 10 Assembly held a group conscious and decided that the position of Head Moderator and all Moderator positions would be open for all Forum members as well as Area 10 members. They decided that the Area 10 Forum Committee would be the liaison between the Moderators and the Area 10 Assembly.

The Forum Committee instructed the webmaster to post the Moderator Job Responsibilities and Requirements. The Forum Committee will address Lawanda's concerns with the Committee's decision to make the posting in such a way that was upsetting to her and the present Moderators.

Area 10 formed the Forum Committee but it was not to formulate Moderator Job Responsibilities and Requirements. That task was given to me. The moderating team and I worked diligently on producing the Moderator Job Responsibilities and Requirements. We worked on it for weeks via email and phone. We all contributed to the task at hand and all agreed on the final product, which I shared with the Forum Committee. The only contribution the Forum Committee provided was to take what the past and present moderating team did and have Michael post it to the forum.

I still stand by my orignal statement, if the procedure for recruiting moderators was going to be changed a courtesy PM, email or phone call from someone on the Forum Committee to the moderating team would have been in order. Instead we have someone taking credit for something they didn't do.

IMO, this seems to be a great way for area 10 to continue to host it, for members to serve, and a committee to serve as liason between the two.

Hi Everyone,

I am not seeing any reason for being concerned or upset. Lawanda advised the forum 10 she didn't want the job after Feb so it seems to me they were asking for a new HM.

I also didn't read anything about the moderators who want to stay on not being able to continue. I think it is very smart of the powers that be to ask for future volunteers.

This is just my opinion by if we keep complaining about the people who make this site available they may just decide to take the easy way out and not support the site in the future.

Lawanda and all the moderators I know your job is not easy but thank you for the time you were willing to serve. Elaine

Area 10 is the Philadelphia area of Nar-anon that hosts our forum.

They are the folks that make this all possible. I am eternally grateful to them for keeping this forum and chatroom alive and well all these years and continuing into the future.

I am one of the current moderators, probably the newest one as I just began serving this past fall. While I knew Lawanda's period of service was ending in February, I was very surprised to see that my service is being ended for me when I thought I had volunteered for a couple of years. I do realize that I have not been as active the past 2 months as I had been earlier but I was out of state assisting my parents -- my father's fight with cancer was not going well. Thru out the time, I maintained contact with Lawanda and Brenda, continuing to help with forum responsibilities via my laptop. While I am not posting as much, I continue to check in with the forum several times a day and utilize the PM feature. I do appreciate the opportunity I have had to serve as I learned a lot both about the organization and myself. Debi

My sincere apologies to you Debi. I was troubled by this omission too which is why in my original post I stated "Yes my term is up next month but that's not the case with all of the moderators." I'm only sorry that I didn't take the time to clarify it further.

Yes, Debi was in constant contact with the team during her struggles. The team totally understood and supported Debi fully. It was understood by all that Debi would do what she could when she could but her family had to come first as it should be.
